This house was designed for a steep, wooded, rocky site overlooking the Delaware River in rural Shohola, Pennsylvania.    The basic design is composed of two rectangular intersecting volumes. The large volume is an open loft-like space.  This volume is framed in wood and steel, clad with wood siding and topped with an energy-saving green roof.  All living functions are loosely arranged in this large volume. The east wall has large and small windows framing views to the river. The large volume is intersected by a smaller two story rectangle that houses all “wet” functions - bathrooms, kitchen, mechanical equipment.  The east end of the second floor sleeping loft cantilevers into the open height of the large volume.
